Those of us traveling by train to Litchfield had an early start from North Camp station but arrived at the National Memorial Arboretum in plenty of time for the 9o/c registration plus a welcome cup of coffee.
The day was dry and sunny which is what we had all been hoping for since the grounds of the Arboretum are vast and exposed and the ceremony was, obviously, going to be outdoor!
We took our reserved seats at 11.30 ready for a mid-day Service and during the ½ hour wait chatted to TG members who had traveled from all parts of the country - as far afield as Kent to Newcastle, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The frantic hub of 300 TG ladies chattering quickly subsided when the Royal cavalcade appeared and, after our President, Princess Ann eventually took her seat, the Service commenced.
It was a short moving Ceremony, opened by National Chairman, Jenny Rideout with input from Sarah Montgomery, Managing Director of the National Memorial Arboretum.
The Reverend Margaret Slingo conducted the Dedication of the TG Memorial and HRH took quite some time viewing it after the official unveiling.
Once the formal part of the day was over we enjoyed a brief tour of the grounds followed by a delicious hot meal before heading off on our journey back home.
The TG Memorial is very impressive and has been sited in a very prominent spot.
